Step 1: Create the Face’s Basic Structure
To begin, sketch out the general shape of the character’s face. While different artists have different ideas about how to design an anime character’s head and face, they all start with the same basic idea: Draw a circle first, then a horizontal line and a vertical line across the center of the circle.
The eyes should be on or slightly below the horizontal line, and the mouth should be at the bottom of the circle, with the nose in between the eyes and the mouth. The chin will extend down below the circle.
Step 2: Add Facial Characteristics
You can sketch the face features in-depth now that you know where they go in general.
Because anime characters are famed for their eyes, here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw anime female eyes for beginners. Begin by drawing a curled upper eyelid and a short line running down from the eye’s outer corner. For a softer look, keep the inner corner of your eye open. Then, as the iris, draw a circle in the middle of the eye. In the middle of the iris, draw a tiny circle—the pupil.
Add one or two more circles to the iris to produce primary and secondary light reflections. Shade the upper half of the pupil darker as you fill it in, producing a gradient as you go down the curve. Make sure the light reflections are all white. Last but not least, apply eyelashes to the top and bottom lids. Of course, there are many other ways to draw anime eyes, so be sure to try them all out and discover your own personal
Mouth and Nose
The nose and mouth of the character will usually be considerably smaller and simpler than the eyes. The nostrils, for example, could be represented by only two little lines. The mouth, too, might be a single curving line.
Then, for novices, we’ll look at how to draw an anime girl’s body step by step. The basic shapes of the human body are a rectangle for the chest, an oval for the hips, and small circles for the shoulders and leg joints.
Fill in the outline of the upper body from there, connecting the rib cage to the hips to form a waist. The legs should be about the same length as the character’s entire upper body, from the top of the head to the waist.
Last but not least, add the arms. The elbow should be aligned with the character’s waist, and the remainder of the arm (including the hand) should be extended to around mid-thigh.
Following these rules will ensure that you generate proportional anatomy, regardless of the body style you’re sketching.
Step 5: Finish the drawing by adding details and inking it.
You’ll have a full-body sketch of your anime character at this point. You can now add elements like clothing and shoes. When you’re happy with the drawing, go over the lines in ink to finish it. While you’ll largely be inking with a black pen, having a white jelly pen on hand might help you add highlights, such as the reflection points in the character’s eyes. You can also use colored pencils or any other medium to add additional colors.
Continue to improve on your knowledge of how to draw anime characters once you’ve mastered the fundamentals. For example, learn how to draw figures in various stances and from various angles, and try out new hairstyles, clothing options, and facial expressions. With experience and perseverance, you may create famous anime art in your own style.
